The power of our voice is evident throughout scripture. God illustrated this time and again. Jesus gave us authority to speak with authority in the New Testament.
Our voice has power to:
Create
Cause destruction like what happened at the the walls of Jericho.
Forgive. “If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them. If you retain the sins of any, they are retained.” (John 20:23 LEB)
Bless. "Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse." (Romans 12:14 NIV)
Prompt God to respond as in declaring the sun to stand still. (Joshua 10:12-14)
Release peace or revoke it. (Matthew 10:13-14).
Activate bread to multiply and storms to cease.
Release healing and encouragement. (Mark 6:13 and 1 Thessalonians 5:11)
Declare in speaking and to others. “As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” (Joshua 24:15 NIV)
Declarations have a creative effect. The devil can only destroy. He can’t create. Even then he has limited capabilities. He works powerfully through suggestions. Then if men obey, destruction occurs. We know that because we have become victim to it.
Because we have been made in the image of God and given authority through Jesus Christ, we can speak and our words will have a creative effect regarding our prodigal situation.
Remember the story of Jesus cursing the fig tree? Upon seeing it dead, the disciples "marveled, saying, “How did the fig tree wither at once?” And Jesus answered them, “Truly, I say to you, if you have faith and do not doubt, you will not only do what has been done to the fig tree, but even if you say to this mountain, ‘Be taken up and thrown into the sea,’ it will happen. And whatever you ask in prayer, you will receive, if you have faith.” (Matthew 21:20-22 ESV)
If our words are that powerful, why aren't we seeing the change in our prodigal situation when we fervently pray, speak, and declare?
It is partly due to our prodigal's own free will. Trees and mountains don't have a free will to counteract God's desire. They operate in complete obedience. Our prodigals are different. This is a frustration to us!
God didn't stop the free will of Adam and Eve. Likewise, He won't stop it for our prodigal.
But what if we spoke declarations in alignment to God's heart for our prodigal?
What if we spoke declarations to create opportunities for our prodigal to give up fighting against God?
Do we give our voice enough credit to do this?
We should!
Declarations can be scriptures from the Bible. (See the one above.) Because God knows our situation and our prodigal better than we will ever know them, we can ask Him for declarations to speak. This is a process we can grow in as we get free of the emotional garbage we carry and align ourselves to His heart for them.
Over the days and weeks ahead, I will be sharing declarations for us to speak regarding our prodigal situations as well as brief teachings on how to make your own.
We know God wants our prodigals to come back to Him. Let's join with Him by telling this earthly realm through our voice the outcome God has planned!

"(Name of your prodigal) Wake out of your slumber! Come alive again to hear God's voice!"
