Preparing Your Heart for the Day Ahead
Being emotionally ready for work or to arrive home is necessary. We can send overwhelming emotions away through prayer. We can also recognize the feelings that seem to be “broadcast” throughout our environments and choose not to absorb them. Instead, we can release anticipated negativity and replace it with God’s hope, wisdom, joy, and goodness.
You may feel overwhelmed with swirling thoughts of negativity expecting problems or even harassment. It can begin to sound like, “Oh no! Another bad day is coming.” In these moments, intentionally putting on God’s armor becomes a powerful daily practice.
Your Identity and Access in Christ
If Christ is in you, you are a child of God and have full access to His resources through prayer. You can bring your thoughts, emotions, and expectations before Him and release them into His care, receiving His peace in return.
Ask the Lord to give you His perspective so you can stay engaged, grounded, and spiritually protected throughout your day.
“Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.” — Psalm 139:23-24 NIV
Pray Out Loud
I put on the whole armor of God prayer so that I may stand firm against evil schemes of the devil. I strap on the belt of truth. Protect me from error by keeping me anchored in Your truth. I put on the breastplate of righteousness. Guard my heart and emotions from spiritual attack. Let me be governed not by my feelings but by the truth of Your Word in this spiritual warfare prayer.
I step into the sandals of peace and let me stand firm in the face of any attack by the enemy. I take up the shield of faith. Let every attack of the world, the flesh, and the devil fall flat in Jesus’ name. I put on the helmet of salvation. Protect my mind from enemy attacks and give me sound thinking rooted in salvation and security in You.
I take up the sword of the Spirit, Your Holy Word. Place Your truth in my heart and mind in a fresh way through this Ephesians 6 prayer, so that it can pierce the hearts and minds of those I encounter. I stand covered, equipped, and strengthened in You, ready for every battle of spiritual warfare today.
Based on Ephesians 6:10–17
